What do you get when Sylvestor Stallone decides to make an action movie with as many action stars of the last few decades as he can find? The Expendables, set for April 23, 2010.
As of now the cast includes: Sylvestor Stallone (also writing and directing), Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Eric Roberts, Mickey Rourke, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Charisma Carpenter, Giselle Itie, Brittnay Murphy, David Zayas and Amin Joseph.
Filming started last month in Brazil.
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger said in an interview with TheArnoldFans.com that he would do a cameo in the film when Stallone asked him to participate:
So I… naturally when he asked me if I would do a cameo, which will just be something quick, like I walk out of a hotel or out of a office building and he will walk up and we will bump into each other and there will be some mumbling and then we will walk off (crowd laughs). So it will be something very simple, that will be again, just a cameo, so that’s what we’re going to do. I promised him I’d do that and I’m looking forward to that. Ok? Good.
It appears that this film has an eerily similar plot to the 1988 film by the same name starring Anthony Finetti, Peter Nelson, and Loren Haynes; though it does not appear to be an official "spinoff." That film had a team of elite commandos dubbed by the government as "expendable," but instead proved themselves to be heroes.
The 2010 Stallone version follows a similar group of highly trained mercenaries as they embark on a mission to overthrow a South American dictator.
