We already pointed out how Katie looked kinda preggers yesterday when we snapped her at the CBS studios in Hollywood, but it looks like Suri could care less about the possibility of a brother or sister. In fact, it looks like the only thing on the adorable celebritot’s mind was a way to escape from her mother!

Suri needs a little excitement in her life, right?
I know, I know…she’s just an energetic 3-year-old…but you gotta wonder! Or at least make a joke about it…

It was with cautious excitement that we strolled into the Tribeca Barnes & Noble last night to hear Lauren Conrad read from her new “novel,” L.A. Candy. While sort of pretending to browse the new fiction, we were told by a stressed Barnes & Noble staffer that there were “1,000” people in the store and some had camped out since 5 a.m. that morning.

Guests were sorted by bracelets — of which there were three color-coded categories — and the line stretched through the bookstore. LC arrived, looking radiant as always, and we were informed that she would not take pictures, would not personalize any books (all you could get was a pretty LaurenConrad signature), and — what do you know? — would not even read from her own roman à clef.

She just signed. Using a bullhorn, an event staffer warned that there was a “gaggle of police” on hand to enforce the rules. But nobody seemed to mind too much: She showed up, everyone cheered. “She told me she liked my bookmark,” exclaimed one teary fan. “She was so nice.” So there you have it: There are apparently thousands of people interested in reading — or at least buying.

Few people have destroyed the world more than Roland Emmerich. In his mega-hit “Independence Day,” aliens laid waste to pretty much every metropolitan center on the planet, and in his eco-thriller “The Day After Tomorrow,” much of the northern hemisphere finds itself buried under ice. In his third crack at presenting the apocalypse, this fall’s “2012,” Emmerich taps into the angst of thousands of astrologers, doomsday enthusiasts, and conspiracy theorists who fear that a massive cataclysm will strike the earth on December 21 of that year. Yet unlike previous dates tied to the Earth’s expiration, this one has its roots in various sources throughout history including interpretations of the Mayan calendar, astrology, and the ancient Chinese fortune-telling text the “I-Ching.”

The Mayan Calendar
2012 gained the patina of doom with the best-selling 1966 book “The Maya” by Harvard archeologist Michael D. Coe. He noted that the Mayan culture’s famously complex “Long Count” calendar simply ends on 12/21/12, speculating that civilization might come crashing down on that date. Other scholars argue, however, that the Mayan calendar would merely flip over like an odometer that reached 100,000 miles.

Galactic Alignment
Astrologers have also pointed out that during the winter solstice of 2012, the orbital planes of the solar system and the twelve Zodiacal constellations will intersect with the “Dark Rift” — a black bit of the Milky Way located next to Sagittarius. Some argue this intersection is precisely why the Mayans — who were brilliant astronomers — ended their calendar when they did. But other astrologers believe that this conjunction will usher in a great shift in consciousness.

Timewave Zero
And then there’s ounterculture thinker Terence McKenna whose Timewave Zero theory — drawing off of elements from the “I-Ching,” the teachings of philosopher Alfred North Whitehead, and modern fractal mathematics — which determined that 12/21/12 is, you guessed it, the exact date of a profound change in world. Roughly speaking, the Mayans, astrologers and McKenna are all predicting global doom or the dawning of the Age of Aquarius.

Sunspots and Pole Problems
So if the apocalypse is set just in time for holiday shopping season three years from now, how exactly will the world end? One theory that actually has some traction in the scientific community is that a solar flare will cause a sudden shift in the magnetic orientation of the Earth’s poles, causing all kinds of planetary problems like volcanic eruptions and earthquakes. NASA is predicting strong solar activity around 2012 and there’s evidence that the magnetic poles are slowly weakening, something that reportedly presages a reversal. Of course, most scientists think that this reversal will take centuries, not days, to occur.

So how does Roland Emmerich end the world in his upcoming epic “2012″? “Pole reversal,” he said in an interview this week. “All kinds of stuff going on. But it’s basically major earthquakes and volcano eruptions which kind of cause this global flood.”

“We found this obscure theory of ‘Earth crust displacement,’ written in the ’50s by someone called Professor Hapgood. Albert Einstein wrote the foreword to his book. It pretty much [says] every X number of years the whole Earth’s crust shifts, all together. We thought that that was a great underlining theory that can explain why there can be a flood.”

And what is the director going to do in preparation for that fated date? When asked he said, “I’m a pretty down to earth guy. Even [though] I made movies about aliens, I don’t believe in aliens. And I don’t believe that the world will come to an end in 2012, but it’s a great scenario.”

Raz of ThrashHits.com conducted an interview with frontman Aaron Lewis of Massachussets rockers STAIND at this year’s Download festival, which was held June 12-14 at Donington Park, United Kingdom.

Lewis revealed in a new interview that he plans to get down to business and finally record his debut solo album this fall, after STAIND finishes up its “Stimulate This” summer tour. As for how his solo material will compare to what he does with STAIND, Lewis told The Pulse of Radio, “It’s gonna be actually quite different. You know, I don’t want to come out and do a solo record that’s gonna be ‘STAIND light.’ You know, it just, it needs to be different and it’s going to be. I don’t want to give too much away, you know, but it’s going to be very different. Chances are I won’t even sing the same way as that I normally do. It’s gonna definitely be different.”

Lewis has done solo tours every winter for the past several years, usually playing casinos and small venues. He’s tested out some solo material at these gigs.

STAIND will begin the “Stimulate This” tour on July 1 in Peoria, Illinois, as the band continues to support 2008’s “The Illusion Of Progress” album.

The group, who made an appearance at the Download festival last weekend, expect the new album to be completed by the end of the year.

“We’re getting together our demos right now and we’re going to go in and record them,” Fred Durst told BBC Newsbeat.

“I’m having a great feeling about going in and doing our record, more than I have about any of our albums before.

“It’s not going to be a watered down version of Limp Bizkit, it’s going to be a more explosive, more addictive, more driven version of Limp Bizkit.”

Durst added that the band, who reformed with their original lineup earlier this year, are expecting to headline summer festivals in 2010.

“This isn’t a reunion, this is a comeback. We’re here to take it back and to sit on top of the mountain again. We’re going to come back to Download and headline it.”

Limp Bizkit’s last record, seven-track EP The Unquestionable Truth (Part 1), was released in May 2005.

Film critics should stick to critiquing an actor’s performance: some of them are far too obsessed with the superficial – with people’s appearance – and there’s nothing worse than a critic being bitchy. Some can be really unkind, and it’s just not fun to read, especially if it’s you they’re writing about. Even if you have 10 really good reviews, it’s the one bad one that sticks in your mind.

A critic really has to know their stuff. If you’re writing about film, see as many movies as you can. Making comparisons with other films helps the reader build a mental picture of what this new film is like. Have an open, varied taste, and be receptive to new creative ideas.
