Is Nicole Trying Too Hard?

Dec 17, 2008 Author: admin | Filed under: Celebrity News

Look, Nicole. You’re so, so cute and you have a smart sense of style… but what’s going on here?

There’s nothing I particularly dislike about the outfit - the coat, the purse, the scarf, the hat, it all works well together. Heck, I even think the red sunglasses she stole from Pete Wentz add a much-needed splash of color! But overall, the look is too labored. Too thought out. Fashion is supposed to look effortless, right? You can do better, Nicole!
Or maybe she just thinks she’s in some modern-day Audrey Hepburn movie?

Akon Pleads Guilty to Tossing Fan Off Stage

Dec 17, 2008 Author: admin | Filed under: Celebrity News

FISHKILL, N.Y. —  Hip-hop star Akon pleaded guilty Wednesday to harassment for tossing a fan off stage at an upstate New York concert last year.

He will serve no jail time as long he performs 65 hours of community service and pays a 0 fine, according to the plea bargain in Fishkill Town Court.

The 35-year-old singer threw a teenage boy off the stage during a June 2007 concert at a minor league baseball stadium near Poughkeepsie. Another concertgoer said she suffered a concussion when the teen landed on her.

Witnesses said a spectator threw something at Akon during the show at Dutchess Stadium. After he asked the crowd to point out the culprit, a security guard picked up a 15-year-old boy and sent him up to the stage. Akon hoisted the teen onto his shoulders and flung him into the crowd. The incident was caught on videotape.

After the plea, Akon shook hands with Anthony Smith, the now 16-year-old fan, and apologized to him and his parents.

Akon declined comment as he left, but Andrea Zellan, his lawyer, issued a written statement saying, "We are pleased that the case has been resolved and Akon looks forward to putting this unfortunate incident behind him."

Akon, born Aliaune Thiam, was originally charged with misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a minor and second-degree harassment, a violation.

Dutchess County Assistant District Attorney Anthony Parisi could not immediately be reached for comment Wednesday morning.

Before the New York incident, Akon drew criticism when he was videotaped simulating sex onstage with a teenage girl during an April 2007 concert in Trinidad. He later apologized and said he hadn’t know the girl was underage.

His third album, "Freedom," was released earlier this month.

When the going gets tough, Coldplay get going - their separate ways…

Fortunately, the UK’s biggest rock band always manage to kiss and make up. Until their next big bust-up, that is. Frontman Chris Martin tells us that he and the other three members of Coldplay have parted company a whopping SIX times. The most recent split was just last week after it emerged they were being sued by American guitarist Joe Satriani.

Happily, the fab four - who are currently on the London leg of their incredible UK tour - can’t stay away from one another for long. Chatting to us backstage ahead of their stomping gig at London’s O2 Arena, Chris admitted: "We have split up on this tour. "Every time we do, we get back together about 20 minutes later - we don’t even have time to announce it! How many times has it happened this tour? Probably six or seven.

"Each time we say, ‘This is it! This is the last show!’ But then you have a fun show and everyone shuts up. The last time it happened… well, even our publicist wouldn’t have found out about it. To be honest, whenever we have any bad news, I always quit for about 10 minutes.

"I get depressed about something - a gig didn’t go well or that person said something terrible. But then the rest of the band will say, ‘It’s OK, we’ll carry on’. I’m trying to think when the last bit of bad news was. Well, putting things into perspective, there hasn’t been anything that bad for a while. I’m supposed to be getting divorced, we’re supposed to be getting sued… but those things aren’t happening so don’t really count as bad news. If my publicist calls me then I know it’s bad news!"

The band have recently annoyed ageing rocker Joe Satriani, who is suing them for copyright infringement. Satriani reckons Coldplay’s Viva La Vida - the name of their charttopping album - rips-off one of his tracks. The suit claims "substantial original portions" of If I Could Fly are recycled in the Coldplay. Of the impending case, Chris shrugged: "We’ve responded, we’re just waiting to see what happens next. We’ve just got to try and fix it."

In a seperate interview, Chris talked about Girls Aloud.

On Girls Aloud:

Says Chris: "Girls Aloud are my favourite girls in the world, aside from my wife and daughter, of course! But they definitely come third to eighth. I chose them for the tour because I was pretty sure if people knew they were doing a gig with us they’d think that was great.
"I’m definitely thinking about doing a a cover of a Girls Aloud song.
"A great band is great because of its chemistry - and that’s what Girls Aloud have. "Do I have a favourite girl? I’d hate to risk splitting them up," he joked.

Study: Romantic Comedies Can Ruin Your Life

Dec 17, 2008 Author: admin | Filed under: Celebrity News

Movies like "You’ve Got Mail" can be hazardous to your love life, says study.

Next time you take a date to the movies, see a horror flick. At least if you want to stay together.

That’s the advice researchers at Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh have for would-be couples.

Romantic comedies, or "rom-coms," promote unrealistic expectations of love and relationships, according to their study.

Researchers had 100 student volunteers watch the 2001 romantic comedy "Serendipity," and 100 more watch a creepy David Lynch movie.

Students watching "Serendipity" were found to be more likely to believe in fate and destiny. Fans of romantic comedies were also found to have a stronger belief in predestined love.

"Marriage counselors often see couples who believe that sex should always be perfect, and if someone is meant to be with you, then they will know what you want without you needing to communicate it," said the university’s Dr. Bjarne Holmes. "We now have some emerging evidence that suggests popular media play a role in perpetuating these ideas in people’s minds. The problem is that while most of us know that the idea of a perfect relationship is unrealistic, some of us are still more influenced by media portrayals than we realize."

Researchers studied 40 films between 1995 and 2005, including "You’ve Got Mail," "Maid In Manhattan," and "The Wedding Planner," and identified common themes in them which they believed were unrealistic.

"[These films] do capture the excitement of new relationships but they also wrongly suggest that trust and committed love exist from the moment people meet," said Kimberly Johnson, who also worked on the study "Whereas these are qualities that normally take years to develop."

It appears that Criss Angel has never been to the Magic Kingdom.

The lady-loving magician is reportedly taking his first trip to Disneyland with his girlfriend Holly Madison, Hugh Hefner’s ex.

“I’ve never been to Disneyland in my entire life, never, ever, ever, ever, never,” Criss tells the Las Vegas Sun. “I’ve always wanted to go but I just haven’t had the opportunity.”

They left Las Vegas yesterday for a two-day visit and were expected back today — just in time to celebrate their birthdays, which are four days and 12 years apart, on Friday at a joint birthday bash at LAX.

Criss will turn 41 that day, while Holly will celebrate her 29 birthday on December 23.

I’ve Changed My Ways Thanks to PETA

Dec 17, 2008 Author: admin | Filed under: Celebrity News

Khloe has just taken to her blog to address today’s web reports that she’s a hypocrite and wears fur.

Khloe writes:

As some of you might have seen today, there are several people who have taken to the web calling me a hypocrite and posting photos of me wearing fur.

The reason PETA approached me initially is because in my past I did wear fur and they wanted to educate me on the brutal ways in which animals are skinned for their pelts.  After watching their video once, I was so horrified that I immediately swore off fur.  The cruel treatment I saw had a great impact on me and I am deeply hurt that people are trying to criticize me for uneducated choices I made in my past that I now regret terribly.

I do know there are tons of photos where I am wearing fur pieces so this is to be expected, but I just wanted to let you know the real story behind my conscious decision and compassionate change of heart.

I have changed my ways and I hope that many other people will as well.
