Steve Jobs Had Liver Transplant; Returning to Work in Days

In a piece of good news for Apple fans, Steve Jobs is still expected to return to work by the end of this month, albeit on a part time basis. The WSJ reports that Jobs was perhaps sicker than many imagined: he underwent a liver transplant in Tennessee in the spring, perhaps related to his previous pancreatic cancer:

Steve Jobs, who has been on medical leave from Apple Inc. since January to treat an undisclosed medical condition, received a liver transplant in Tennessee about two months ago. The chief executive has been recovering well and is expected to return to work on schedule later this month, though he may work part-time initially.

Mr. Jobs didn’t respond to an email requesting comment. “Steve continues to look forward to returning at the end of June, and there’s nothing further to say,” said Apple spokeswoman Katie Cotton.

There’s room for skepticism, however: Apple has remained quiet on the issue for months, insisting that Job’s health is his own concern. And yet such information has a significant effect on Apple’s stock price, creating an incentive to keep the details private: Apple’s investors would likely have become skittish if they’d known about Job’s surgery at the time.

As always with this saga, we’ll only know for sure when we see Steve Jobs back at work.

Well, that’s good. I’m such an Apple whore. I would’ve been really sad if Mr. Jobs didn’t return

Edit: Maybe I should come out with that i’m a new Apple whore and only got my macbook after being with a PC for years. I can now faithfully say it’s true, once you go mac you never go back.
