We’re never shocked to see celebs flock to the beach on Memorial Day, but when we snapped punky pop princess Avril Lavigne hitting the waves yesterday, we were a little surprised. The singer was smiling and splashing around in the water like a normal 24-year-old, rather than one who has a history of spitting on photographers, among other things.

We have to ask though…doesn’t it look like Avril has put on a few pounds? The last time we photographed her in a bikini, she was looking pretty svelte, but these pics look like a girl after she’s put on her freshman 15. Too much partying perhaps?
Where was hubby Deryck Whibley? Hopefully Avril’s chipper mood had nothing to do with his absence!
